John came to the U.S.A. and settled in Dayton, Ohio. This is where he met Wilhelmine and married her. Their first three children were born in Dayton. They moved to Wisconsin.
John served as John W Laub in Company A of Wisconsin’s 45th Infantry in the Civil War. He enlisted 26 Sept 1864. He was promoted from private to sergeant 12 Nov 1864. The 45th was forwarded to Nashville, TN in the latter part of 1864 and the first part of 1865 and were stationed at Nashville until the 17th of July when they were mustered out of service and embarked for Wisconsin where they arrived on the 23rd July and were shortly after paid off and disbanded.
